Dear Google Voice, where is my invite?
Quite a while ago I stumbled upon a service called GrandCentral that promised to give you one universal phone number and the ability to control how, when and where you receive calls to that number. I liked the idea but did not find a real need for it. If I remember correctly, I signed up for it, realized it wasn’t going to be useful for me and canceled my account. With the (not so) recent Google acquisition of Grand Central I am now kicking myself for canceling that account. Two years ago Google acquired Grand Central, revamped and rebranded the service to Google Voice. Finally after much anticipation, Google Voice Beta invites were extended to people who were previous GrandCentral customers. When I heard this announcement I rushed on over to the Google Voice website and checked every past e-mail/password combination I could think of to see if there was a slight chance that I hadn’t actually canceled my GrandCentral account. Unfortunately my memory did serve me correctly and I had no luck recovering any combination of e-mail and password. So I signed up for an invite and waited, and waited and waited…A few weeks ago Google finally announced they were going to begin sending invites to all of the people who requested one on the website. Silly me, when I first heard the announcement I rushed to my e-mail inbox and scoured it for my invite. I hadn’t thought about the fact that I was among many who also requested an invite. Shortly after I read an article written by I4U News that made me realize my wait could be far from over.

According to my Twitter search results people are actually receiving invites so mine has to be on it’s way. So here I am still waiting for my invite. Since I have no control over this I guess I’ll keep waiting, and waiting, and waiting…
Did you get an invite? Still waiting? If you were one of the lucky ones what do you think of the service? Worth the wait? Leave a comment and let me and the rest of the world know!
